The Office of the Registrar at U of T Mississauga delivers registrarial services to support U of T Mississauga's academic goals and U of T priorities in the areas of student information, interpretation of policies, and innovation of registrarial interactions.

The Assistant Registrar, Student Communications works closely with the entire Office of the Registrar team to develop and implement strategic communications plans, including the Academic Advising Services team, various UTM student services departments (such as the Office of the Student Transition or the Career Centre), student organizations, and more directly, with the Manager, Student Recruitment Communications, Assistant Registrar, Registrarial Services, Assistant Registrar, Financial Aid, Assistant Registrar, Campus Scheduling & Examinations; Assistant Registrar, Academic Standards and Petitions; as well as the Assistant Registrar, Student Records and Registration.

The Assistant Registrar Communications will also be a member of UTM's divisional marketing and communications group.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Planning and developing an integrated multichannel communications strategy independently
  • Cultivating ongoing, highprofile prospective partnerships that advance strategic agendas
  • Developing and implementing communication plans that support strategic objectives
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Writing and editing copy and content to advance communications objectives
  • Drafting storyboard content and presenting to clients as options
  • Writing and editing targeted communications to support strategic initiatives
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor Degree in communications and or journalism or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Minimum five (5) years related experience
  • Experience working in registrarial services, student services or academic advising within a policybased, studentcentric environment in a postsecondary institution
  • Handson experience managing communications projects from inception to completion
  • Experience with communications through customer relationship management (CRM) systems would be an asset
  • Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills; demonstrated commitment, initiative, and a strong creative ability
  • Welldeveloped problemsolving and analytical skills, demonstrated organizational ability to meet tight deadlines and to juggle multiple conflicting priorities
  • Highly detailoriented, well organized, focused on student needs with an appreciation for the urgency and timeliness of important messages that have high impact on student success and graduation
  • Strong persuasive skills with the ability to consolidate large amounts of information and get 'buy in' from those with differing interests; a strong relationship builder, flexible, with the ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders, students and parents; tact in dealing with people at all levels and able to work collegially with peers
  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and how to utilize and harness these tools to effectively communicate with current students and parents
