Job summary:
The Community Engagement Manager manages the volunteer program and third party events and supports student field placements.

The Community Engagement Manager recruits, places and supports volunteers in Phoenix's programs, signature events and supports the engagement of corporate and community volunteer groups.

Coordinating the student field placements involves collaboration with Phoenix programs, post-secondary schools and placing students throughout the agency. The Community Engagement Manager receives all third-party event inquiries and supports those groups in the execution of their initiatives.


Reports to:
Director of Development


Compensation:
$55,000 - $60,000 per year. Comprehensive Group Medical Insurance Plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP Contributions, Paid Vacation & Sick Time, Generous Paid Holiday Schedule.


Hours of Work:
Typically 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, with evening and weekend events as required.


Locations:5880 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the program is congruent with Phoenix's vision and values.
  • Work in accordance with Phoenix's policies, procedures, and framework of practice.

Third Party Initiatives

  • Lead all aspects of thirdparty initiatives Phoenix engages in and support their success from research, solicitation, implementation through stewardship.
  • Assess feasibility and oversee annual calendar of events.
  • Support initiatives by providing tools and resources, building online donation platforms, guidance and support as needed.

Volunteer Management

  • Manage all aspects of the volunteer program including program development and implementation, community development, financial management, communication, and evaluation.
  • Manage recruitment, screening, orientation and onboarding, working with volunteer team lead in programs by providing support, leadership and training, performance management and feedback, referrals, recognition, personnel files, and a database.
  • Manage relationships with businesses and organizations who engage their employees in community volunteer engagement.

Student Placements

  • Support relationships with post secondary institutions to build strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Ensure deliverables are met as outlined in agreements and MOUs by supporting the screening, intake and interview process, managing the database and other aspects as needed.

Other

  • Commit to Phoenix's development and participate in internal and community committees, projects, and activities.
  • Attend team meetings, collaborate, and contribute to team goals and activities.
  • Engage in public education presentations, speaking engagements, media appearances, trade shows and fairs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Understanding of social justice issues and antioppressive practice.
  • Support the agency's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through learning opportunities, critical selfreflection, and professional development.
  • Demonstrated success in volunteer or people management.
  • Demonstrated successful program development and implementation, community development, service delivery, financial management, communication, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated success managing a volunteer program by cultivating and stewarding positive relationships with volunteers.
  • Understanding of the benefits, issues, and trends of volunteerism in the nonprofit and private sectors.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media.
  • Understanding of the value of student practicums in the nonprofit sector is an asset.
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset.
  • Experience with CanadaHelps and Raiser's Edge NXT is an asset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 years relevant professional experience is preferred, however an appropriate combination of education and experie
