Position Summary:


In line with the University and Faculty's strategic research objectives, the Research Officer serves the Faculty's broad research community on campus and at affiliated institutions, by providing expert advice and guidance on granting agencies and University policies, guidelines, and procedures for research funding opportunities, in close collaboration with McGill's Office of Sponsored Research and equivalent units located at affiliated hospitals and institutes.

The position is integral to the operations and management of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Research Office.


Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, plans, develops and implements research-related activities in the Faculty associated with research funding opportunities.

In close collaboration with the office of the Vice-Principal Research & Innovation, develops, analyses and maintains database of research performance indicators and relevant benchmarks.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Keeps abreast on Faculty's and University's research activities and programs, assigns and validates priorities and timeframes, and organizes work accordingly;
  • Researches, analyses and implements methods to gather research administration data for the preaward phase of proposals and resulting contracts and grants;
  • Collects and analyzes data and selects the most appropriate procedures for performing research administration activities. Ensures that activities are performed in accordance with Faculty, University and governing bodies' policies and procedures;
  • Serves as liaison with University counterparts in the Office of Sponsored Research. Represents the Associate Dean and advises OSR on the Faculty's strategic priorities;
  • Interprets changes to funding agencies regulations and rules, provides critical input on proposed changes to internal policies and procedures;
  • Reviews submissions for accuracy and quality and approves them. Provides researchers with feedback to optimize chances of success;
  • In collaboration with Faculty Communications, develops and maintains the Office of Research website. Monitors, publishes and updates web pages related to funding opportunities and research resources at the Faculty;
  • In collaboration with the office of the Vice-Principal Research & Innovation, compiles, tracks, analyses and reports on research statistics. Produces and maintains statistical reports on research funding and productivity trends.

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 05) $65, $81, $98,240.00
