Working in a dynamic environment and reporting to the Manager, Risk Management Services, the Risk Advisor is primarily responsible for supporting the district's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program.

The Risk Advisor will provide critical support for an updated ERM program, conducting strategic and operational risk assessments and supporting risk treatment plans.

The Risk Advisor works with relevant risk liaisons across the organization to identify, assess, document, and assist in managing critical operational and strategic risks and opportunities.

The Risk Advisor supports the development of ERM tools, implementation of district's ERM framework, and provides advisory services as a trusted risk advisor to the organization.

The Risk Advisor will support the development of policy, risk tolerance standards, risk practices, risk transfer processes, governance models and compliance programs, working closely with the Risk Management Services team to inspire and drive change.

As part of the Risk Management Services team, the position serves as a resource for risk management related issues in complex, fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to envision risks that might be otherwise unnoticeable to others, identify the magnitude of those risks and find solutions to manage risk through research, planning, problem-solving and collaboration.

The nature and scope of work requires a significant degree of independence and judgement in a specialized area of practice.

The Risk Advisor may provide backup support for various Risk Management Service activities, including claims administration and contract review during the Manager's absence, and may occasionally assist with emergency planning and business continuity functions.


CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education & Experience


A minimum of three (3) years recent experience in risk management, with direct experience contributing to an enterprise risk management program.

Experience with insurance and claims administration is also desirable.

Experience in a leadership role desired.

Post-secondary degree or diploma in risk management, business management, project management, or related business discipline.

Completion of Risk Management Certification (CRM, CRMP, RIMS Fellow)

Experience in the public sector is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

A solid understanding of Risk Management techniques including risk identification, assessment, mitigation tactics and monitoring.


Proactive, organized, able to manage multiple concurrent tasks and able to pivot to respond to risk events and business demands.

Self-motivated and able to work with mínimal direction and oversight.

Proven ability to lead and manage projects and deliver results in a rapidly changing environment.

Excellent verbal communication, written, interview and facilitation skills.

Ability to liaise with senior management level stakeholders in a confident and articulate manner.

Ability to analyze business situations and foresee implications of major decisions with in-depth understanding of risk analysis and management.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels in the organization and to work as part of a team.
