Within UTE, the Black Founders Network (BFN) is an initiative created after extensive consultation with internal and external stakeholders in the Black Community.

The BFN's mission is to create an inclusive community of Black entrepreneurs at all stages of their journey, and provide them with the networks, resources, and inspiration to launch, fund, and scale impactful startups.

The BFN encompasses three pillars - Core, Accelerate (a four-month startup accelerator) and Scale as well as various activities to support Black talent and career exploration.


Your opportunity:


Reporting to the Director, University of Toronto Entrepreneurship (UTE), and working closely with the Program Manager, Black Founders Network (BFN), the Coordinator provides administrative and financial support for all BFN programming including BFN Core, Accelerate and Scale; BFN events/meetings and similar programming which engages and grows the BFN community.


Hours of Work for this position are Monday to Friday from 8:45am to 5:00pm; and include some evenings and occasional weekends in alignment with event needs.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Identifying and introducing variations to established administration processes
  • Verifying that supporting documentation is attached to financial records before processing in FIS
  • Processing cost recoveries
  • Processing expense reimbursements
  • Preparing and/or processing journal entries
  • Processing invoices

Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in financial and administrative support.
  • Lived experience and active involvement with Black and other underrepresented communities on initiatives or programming that advance the relevant community.
  • Experience updating databases and generating reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with processing financial transactions and analyzing discrepancies.
  • Experience with recording and reconciling transactions for accounts, processing expenses.
  • Experience compiling, sorting and organizing financialdata.
  • Demonstrated experience using FIS
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion in the execution of position responsibilities
  • Strong initiative and ability to work well in a team
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to work in a highvolume environment that requires multitasking on varied duties and an ability to prioritize effectively and work under pressure
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot activities and provide high level of customer service
