PURPOSE

  • Responsible for assisting group home residents with educational, social, and recreational needs, and to organize and carry out activities. Also responsible for managing the residential group home in the absence of the GH Coordinator.
    JOB CONTEXT

Under limited supervision from the GH Coordinator, the Program Team Lead will assist residents to and from planned programs and organize programs. such as outings, entertainment, crafts, parties, etc. In the absence of the GH Coordinator, the Program Team Lead is responsible for the overall running of the residential group home. The Program Team Lead may be responsible for administering all medication treatments/interventions as trained by professionals as well as to ensure all staff have been trained appropriately.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.

Program Duties:


  • Plan, organize and deliver regular recreational events, activities, and programs (i

e:
birthday parties, baking, holiday events) for the Residential Group Home.

  • Plan and organize special recreational events (i

e:
yearly camping trip, holiday events, fund raisers)

  • Preplan for recreation outing/events for days when not scheduled by providing a monthly schedule.
  • Maintain communication through calendars.
  • Contact and involve resident's families in activities and events.
  • Promote activities through posters and information bulletins.
  • Liaise with outside agencies to provide additional programs suitable for residents.

Group Home Operations:


  • Assist residents with attending and/or following up with any appointments, in consultation with the GH Coordinator.
  • Assist residents with completing personal errands in coordination with the GH Coordinator.
  • Provide medical support such as medication administration, tube feeding, and other therapies as prescribed by professionals.
  • Provide physical support such as physiotherapy, respiratory therapy, and bowel care routines.
  • Provide personal support such as attending appointments, following recommendations, and meeting the needs of the residents.
  • Assist GH Coordinator with overseeing daily operations of the group home, including completing WRA's, medication checks and managing employees.

General Duties:


  • Provide medical, physical and/or personal support to residents as necessary.
  • Promote good working relations with all residents and maintain confidentiality.
  • Responsible for weekend on call responsibilities shared equally with GH Coordinator
  • Abide by Policies and Procedures of LutherCare Communities
  • Complete other jobrelated tasks as assigned by the General Manager or Operations Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE POSITION & ORGANIZATION

Experience:


  • At least three years of experience working with intellectually disabled adults in a residential setting.
  • Minimum one year experience working with residents with high medical needs.
  • Experience planning and coordinating events.
  • Supervisory experience required.

Qualifications:


  • Grade 1
  • Postsecondary education in a related discipline (i

e:
Continuing Care Aide/Assistant, Disability Support Worker, Therapeutic Recreation, etc.)

  • Sign language is desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to drive a wheelchair bus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Effectively work with adults with cognitive and physical disabilities.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity, patience, and concern in providing quality service to residents.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate activities, outings, and functions for residents.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
