The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan.

CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.


The Canadian Light Source is currently recruiting for an Engineering Summer Student with a specific focus on Vacuum Engineering within the Machine Division.

Reporting to a CLSI Mechanical Engineer, this position will be a full-time summer position starting on Monday, May 1st and concluding on Thursday, August 31st or as discussed with the direct supervisor.


Position Summary:


  • Work with the CLS Mechanical Engineering department as part of the Vacuum team. The Vacuum team is responsible for operating and maintaining the ultrahigh vacuum technology required to operate the synchrotron.
  • Will work with other departments to gather information and solve problems.
  • Tasks will have a clear outcome and be selfguided with structure as needed.
  • The project will aim to answer a research based, proof of concept, pilot study type of question related to ultrahigh vacuum technology
  • Flexibility with work environment and hours
  • Interest and experience in machine learning and data analytics is considered an asset.

Qualifications:


  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
  • Programming experience in C++ or Python for example
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others and independently
  • Strong at problem solving and analytical thinking

Remuneration:
Remuneration is consistent with the University of Saskatchewan Undergraduate Student Assistant Rates.
