Trauma Counselor

  • Consultant ContractJIAS Toronto is a notforprofit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the wellbeing and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.


We are seeking a
Trauma Counselor to work as a consultant providing short term counseling to refugees to address mental health issues resulting from trauma.

In this assignment, you will be conducting comprehensive initial assessments of clients' mental health and wellbeing, as well as providing trauma counselling using evidence-based techniques.


This is a great opportunity if you have at minimum a master's Degree in a mental health field such as psychotherapy, psychology, or clinical work.

You must be registered in good standing with an applicable College and have at least 3 years of related experience as a counsellor working with individuals who have experienced trauma.

Advanced knowledge of and experience in the delivery of trauma-informed care is required.

Ability to provide counselling in languages spoken by recent JIAS populations such as Tigrigna, Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, or Russian will be considered an asset.


This is a consultant opportunity for approximately 20 hours a month.
