Coordinator, Student Life

Primary Purpose:

The Coordinator, Student Life (Coordinator) is a live-in role and is responsible for all aspects of Student Life in their assigned area of Residence, including student staff management (coaching, support, and discipline), student support (crisis, conduct, and conflict management/resolution), programming delivery, and community oversight.

Centered on principles of holistic student development and inclusivity, Coordinators work towards student success and community within Residence, while meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse student population.

This work includes continuous conduct follow-up, advising on and coordination of support efforts, and continued assessment of risk for both students and the community.


Nature of Work:

The unique elements of this role include: A requirement to live in Residence: this refers to living in a furnished apartment located in the Residence complex for which the Coordinator is responsible, and necessitates an understanding and acceptance of not only the benefits of this arrangement but also the challenges of living in the midst of a student environment and the requirement to self-manage any resulting stressors over time


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


Supporting Students
Responds to emergency situations and student crisis in a timely manner with appropriate levels of communication, consultation and referral

Responds - through RAs or personal contact, coaching, or investigative discussion - to students in distress, conflict, or engaging in disruptive behaviors (conduct violations)

Practices a high level of accountability around student follow-up, record-keeping and reporting

Reviews student updates and reports and follows up as appropriate

Works to create an inclusive community founded on principles of equity and an appreciation of diversity

Designs, facilitates and assesses student development programming based on shifting student needs

Promotes and enforces adherence to Residence and University policies


Supporting Student Staff
Recruits and hires student staff

Manages and coaches staff, including overseeing disciplinary processes, and meeting regularly with all levels of staff; serves as a role model and mentor to student leaders

Develops and/or assists in execution of training initiatives, leadership development, and professional development opportunities for student leaders

Supporting Management and the Coordinator Team

Functions cooperatively and autonomously, develops priorities based on the goals of the unit

Collaborates with colleagues, student staff, and students by working to actively contribute to team situations, communicating with respect and actively working to reduce and resolve conflict

Supports departmental policy and process


Supporting Residence and the University
Works to build collaborative relationships and partnerships on-Campus and in the community, especially with services offering student and departmental support

Works to promote and support Residence and University goals and initiatives

Respects the confidential nature of the position and treats information accordingly

Education:
Undergraduate degree is required. Relevant area of study will be considered an asset.

The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $49, ,033.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
