As a member of the Occupational Health & Safety Services Team, the safety consultant ensures regulatory requirements are met, risk to the organization is reduced and employee safety is maximized through the administration of the corporate safety programs.

This role assesses organizational risk and develops/maintains corporate injury prevention programs to respond to risk. It provides oversight to the corporate systems used to manage/support corporate safety.


This role provides consultation and support to operational leaders and the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs) to ensure appropriate follow up actions are completed regarding adverse events.

In addition this role provides consultation/guidance to Environmental Services and Facilities leadership on environmental programs, regarding staff safety.


The safety consultant will coordinate and provide support to respond to Ministry of Labour visits and orders and any JHSC recommendations.

The safety consultant advises the safety analyst on complex issues, prioritizing work assignment, developing/maintaining procedural guidelines and other daily work.


Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Applied Science or related field of study
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation or Certified Health & Safety Consultant
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, i.e. consensus building, facilitation skills, project planning, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Uses problem solving experience and skills to recognize and resolve difficult and complex situation in achieving positive outcomes
  • Strong presentation/training skills, computer skills
  • Models' leadership behaviour with personal credibility influence
  • Experience in policy and program development
  • Report writing skills: position papers, policies and procedures, reports to regulatory bodies
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory and best practice information relevant to safety and general knowledge of physical plant systems, construction techniques
  • Ability to integrate/align the legislative requirements with the mission, visions and values of the organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the Safety and Environmental field
  • Experience working in a health care and/or laboratory setting
  • Experience/training as a health care provider
  • Experience with use of Parklane

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph's Health Care London policies and processes related to Covid management in the workplace.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
