Position Overview


Horizon Tree Care Division provides skilled arboriculture work involving pruning, planting, and removal of trees for municipal, residential, and commercial clients.

This is a full-time crew lead position, working a minimum of 40 per week, and will be responsible for running a crew of between 2-4 people.


Example of work may include:


  • Climbing trees as well as operating an aerial lift truck for the purpose of pruning or removing trees.
  • Planting at large scale commercial sites.
  • Provide onthejob training for apprentices.
  • Completing documentation required during daily operations.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability

  • Knowledge of tree identification, growth habits and maintenance requirements of various tree species.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of integrated pest management and plant health care.
  • Skill in the operation and servicing of equipment used in arboriculture work.
  • Ability to identify pests and diseases that may adversely affect trees.
  • Ability to prune, plant, and remove trees without supervision.
  • Ability to climb trees using a rope and harness.
  • Ability to operate an aerial lift truck.
  • Ability to drive large commercial vehicle with trailers and perform pretrip inspections.
  • Ability to perform hazardous climbing and pruning tasks at considerable heights (100ft or more).
  • Ability to perform physical labour and work outside in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instruction with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to assign, check and review the work of apprentices.
  • Ability to keep records related to work performed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the team, clients, and the public.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced team environment.
  • Ability to stand/walk for up to 8 hours a day while lifting upto 80 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Class 1, 3 or Class 5 with airbrake endorsement are an asset.
  • Certified Utility Arborist or Utility Arborist Apprentice are an asset.
  • ISA Certified Arborist is an asset.
  • TRAQ Certification is an asset.
  • Pesticide Applicator Certification is an asset.

Requirements:


  • Steeltoed boots
  • Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation

Compensation:


  • Salary: $40/HR+ DOE
  • Paid overtime after 40hours per week
