    Intermediation Automation Engineer

    NSB Omega is looking for an Automation Engineer for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Calgary, AB.

    Assignment Description

    As an Automation Engineer focused on data connectivity, networking, and industrial control system (ICS) integration, you will have a vital role in scoping, designing, implementing, and optimizing automation solutions for intricate industrial environments. Leveraging your expertise in data communication, network infrastructure, and ICS integration, you will help execute projects that utilize OT data to enable predictive analytics solutions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Automation System Design and Implementation:
      • Tailor automation solutions for industrial settings, emphasizing data connectivity, networking, and ICS integration.
      • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, specifications, and architecture for automation systems.
      • Identify scalable and robust automation solutions to enable efficient data exchange and communication across control systems, sensors, actuators, and devices.
    • Data Connectivity and Networking Solutions:
      • Support in scoping and implementing solutions for seamless data transfer, integration, and synchronization within industrial networks.
      • Assist in implementing and configuring network infrastructure components for reliable and secure data communication.
      • Utilize knowledge of protocols and technologies for industrial data connectivity, such as Modbus, OPC-UA, and Ethernet/IP.
    • Project Coordination:
      • Assist in project execution activities, managing schedules, budgets, and stakeholder communication.
      • Aid in collecting engineering documentation, reviewing for accuracy and completeness, creating reports, and managing technical punch-list items.
      • Lead discussions on data availability and quality, and collaborate with engineering disciplines to identify remediation actions.
    • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
      • Work closely with engineering, operations, and IT teams to ensure alignment and integration of automation solutions with organizational objectives.
      • Provide technical guidance and support on data connectivity, networking, and ICS integration to team members.
      • Participate in design reviews and testing to uphold the quality and reliability of automation systems.
    • Documentation and Training:
      • Document system architectures, configurations, and integration procedures to facilitate knowledge transfer and reproducibility.
      • Offer training and mentorship to team members on data connectivity, networking, and ICS integration principles and practices.
      • Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies related to automation and industrial control systems.

    Qualifications Required

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical, or a related field.
    • Experience as an Automation Engineer specializing in data connectivity, networking, and industrial control system integration within industrial settings.
    • Thorough knowledge of industrial communication protocols, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity principles.
    • Familiarity with industrial transmitters, wireless mesh networks, and instrument management systems is advantageous.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex automation and networking issues efficiently.
    • Experience in troubleshooting, configuring, and implementing control system solutions from various providers.
    • Experience with process historians and data retrieval, along with project management expertise, is beneficial.
