  • NONU $30.51/hrThe Clinical Care Assistant (CCA) is a 4th Year Student in The Nursing Program (post consolidation) to provide comprehensive health services to Queensway Carleton Hospital patients.


The CCA knowledge, skill and judgment in providing care to patients is consistent with the Canadian Nurses Association Competencies for Registered Nurses.


  • Assists RN's to provide clinical care to patients within the legislated scope of practice for delegated acts to optimize patient outcomes and enhance safety, efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility to care.
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team to deliver holistic patient centered care to patients and families across the inpatient and outpatient continuum.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other interprofessional members to implement best practice guidelines in specific patient populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Inserting peripheral IVs.
  • Performing venipuncture.
  • Inserting foley catheters.
  • Monitoring established. PCA/CADD/Epidural infusions.
  • Performing tracheostomy care and suctioning.
  • Administering IM, SC, PR, and PV medications.
  • Administering IV medications above the drip chamber.
  • Administering IV direct medications under direct supervision.
  • Blood glucose testing and monitoring.
  • Monitors an established blood transfusion.
  • Monitors and cares for a patient who is receiving a blood transfusion under direct supervision.
  • Performs CVAD line and dressing changes.
  • Administers narcotics under direct supervision.
  • Flush peripheral saline lock with saline solution.
  • Assists in the maintenance and proper care of nursing equipment.
  • Hospital acquired illnesses are managed and reported as per the health and safety act
  • Adheres to established QCH policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Displays an attitude that is focused on working safely and ensuring that the work environment is safe and healthy.
  • The position complies with all legislative standards, hospital's policies/procedures and rules/regulations in a professional manner.
  • Uses safe work practices and wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required.
  • Reports any actual or potential hazard to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with college of nurse's standards and legal requirements
  • Completes admission history and/or discharge preparation and documentation.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and independently.
  • Effective problemsolving and conflict management.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and patient focused.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to change.
  • Ability to implement a plan of care.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • 4th year Undergraduate Nursing Student
  • Completed all clinical placements for 4th Year Registered Nurse program
  • Knowledge of RHPA, Public Hospitals Act, Health Care and Consent Act, Child and Family Services Act
  • Knowledge of College of Nurses Standards and Guidelines
