Communications & Engagement Coordinator


Ulnooweg is seeking an outgoing, creative, and strategic Communications & Engagement Coordinator to help promote programs, initiatives, and fundraising campaigns.


The coordinator's key responsibilities as a member of the Communications team are:

  • The development and implementation of communication strategies that emphasize Indigenous voices and experiences, such as social media, blogs/articles, newsletters and press releases.
  • Fostering authentic relationships with Indigenous communities to encourage their participation in Indigenous Knowledge systems and supporting staff with event needs and promotional content curation.
  • In conjunction with the creation and development of marketing materials and campaigns, support the promotion of ongoing programs and initiatives through digital and traditional media.
  • Public relations and media coverage associated with the Ulnooweg Education Center are organized, managed, and archived.
  • Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at Ulnooweg by making equity and reconciliation principles an integral part of our programs and communications.
  • Assisting the Communications team throughout the planning, implementation, and hosting of events/conferences, including providing crucial administrative support
  • Vendor acquisition, brand materials, and brand apparel.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in commerce, public relations, communications, or marketing from a university or equivalent.
  • 23 years of relevant experience.
  • A passionate advocate for Indigenous knowledge systems and participation in science, innovation, agriculture, forestry, and engineering.
  • A commitment to advancing equity and reconciliation.
  • Working with marginalized and underrepresented communities, including Indigenous groups in Canada, and building trust.
  • Experience with Microsoft office suite, canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and document layout formats as well as strong creative and intermediate design skills
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills, including written, oral, and digital
  • Detailoriented and wellorganized
  • The ability to build relationships is important to you you have strong people skills and emotional intelligence.
  • The ability to motivate oneself and have a positive, cando attitude
  • Flexibility when it comes to taking on duties. As a small team, we all do a little bit of everything.
  • An eagerness to learn and contribute as a team player

Requirement:

Location/hours:
Hybrid home/office in Downtown Halifax, 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.

Your job will involve engaging with people across the Atlantic region and may require some travel to other provinces, so you'll need to be available to attend events and meetings in person.

It is not necessary to own your own mode of transportation, however a driver's license is required. If you choose to work in the office, our base is at 5121 Sackville Street.

$50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
