Position Purpose summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for energetic and highly-organized individuals to be part of our summer team.

Our Youth Mentors will be assisting the Family Life Coordinator, in planning, coordinating and leading our children's summer programs that will be open to children ages 7-12 years.


We provide this program for the children in the community to promote a safe and positive environment where we motivate the children to become socially responsible citizens.

Throughout the summer our Mentors will develop leadership skills and gain valuable work experience.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist in implementing youth activities (Kids Club Program).
  • Assist with planning and prepping of activities.
  • Play a positive role model among participants.
  • Assist setup and cleanup of activities.
  • Assist in registration and recruitment of participants.
  • Lead small group activities.
  • Knows and acts in accordance with all safety procedures of the Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
  • Participate in staff meetings and inservice training as required.
  • Assist in Family Foundations program if needed.
  • Give oversight and supervision of children.
  • Encourage the healthy participation of each camper in the program.
  • Maintain, adhere and administer camp rules/policies of the camp program at all times.
  • May assist with planning and participating in communitydrop in events.
  • To ensure the cleanliness of the program facilities.
  • Conduct oneself with a high degree of respect and confidentiality, and dedicates oneself to the accomplishment of Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre's Mission Statement while employed by The Salvation Army.

Qualifications and Education requirements:


Education/Certifications:


  • High School or University Student (between 16 and 29 years of age).
  • Must be continuing high school or postsecondary studies in September 202
  • Highly motivated team player with strong leadership potential.
  • Special interests in recreational activities, creative art, and storytelling.

Experience:

- planning and delivering programs for children and working with children preferred.


Required Skills/Knowledge:


  • Works independently/as a team with mínimal supervision.
  • Problem solving and multitasking abilities.
  • Positive and encouraging attitude.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Supportive knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fastpaced work environment.
  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to join children in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days.
  • Maintain focus on children and program operations on a daily basis.
  • Must be flexible. The work environment may be in a variety of locations. It will include indoor and outdoor settings according to program planning.

PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities:


  • Experience in planning and delivering programs for children and working with children preferred.
  • Drivers License
  • Must have a valid Police and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have certificate in First Aid/CPR or willingness to receive training
