Job Summary:


Reporting to the Manager of Galley and Cover Development, the Art Intern position will be a key member of the HTP Art Team.

HTP Art is responsible for creating Art for Book Covers, Interior Pages and Advertising for all of the HTP imprints:
Canary Street Press, Graydon House, Hanover Square, Inkyard Press, Mira and Park Row Books.

In this role you will have the opportunity to develop practical design skills from the ground up within an In-House design department and learn about traffic flow and organization from concept to Final Art.


Responsibilities:


The intern will focus in these areas:

  • Researching photography, illustrations and fonts
  • Retouching / Manipulating Images
  • Laying out interior book page designs
  • Laying out Cover Flats
  • Work with designers and art directors to develop design concepts (print and digital)
  • Receive feedback from Art Directors and Creative director and make necessary revisions
  • Assemble Presentation materials
  • Adhere to timelines
  • Provide administrative support to Manager of Galley and Cover Development

Qualifications:

Specific training or job experience required includes:

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign)
  • Basic knowledge of layout, typography, color and composition
  • Understanding of design hierarchy
  • Passion for all genre of books
  • Interest in current trends
  • Strong portfolio and design work
  • Applicants must be eligible to work and be paid in Canada
