- Leading the estimating and Pre-Construction process, including estimate preparation, subcontractor engagement, and subcontract buyout/contracting.
- Collaborating with project management and business development to establish project budgets, general conditions, and strategic positioning for opportunities under review.
- Engaging qualified subcontractors and securing competitive tenders through effective selection processes.
- Interpreting contract drawings and specifications, ensuring adherence in all work phases.
- Conducting detailed quantity takeoffs based on thorough analysis of tender drawings.
- Reviewing project plans and specs, providing input on design, scheduling, cost-saving strategies, and potential construction challenges.
- Participating in pre-construction activities, such as meetings, budget preparation, and value engineering.
- Experience in both lump sum and construction management projects.
- 5 years of experience in commercial interior construction estimating within a general contracting or construction environment.
- Hold a degree/diploma in engineering, construction management, architecture, or related field.
- Familiarity with construction management, lump sum contracts, and design build agreements.
- Assets include Gold Seal certification in estimating and/or Quantity Surveyor designation.
- Established relationships with local sub-trades and knowledge of regional market conditions.
- Proficient in analyzing drawings and technical specifications, with a sound grasp of trade scopes.
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills and ability to command respect from stakeholders.
- Effective multitasking, prioritization, and meeting deadlines under time constraints.
- Proficiency in computerized estimating, quantity take-off programs, and Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
- Combination of on-site and in-office work. No remote or hybrid role.
- Possible locations at the GB offices in Calgary or Edmonton, with occasional work-related travel.
- Exposure to construction sites in varied weather conditions.
