R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is currently seeking a Junior Inspector to join our Field Services team.

This is an entry level position, and we are particularly interested in recent graduates with mínimal inspection experience who are willing to be trained and mentored as a Construction Inspector.

This position will be based out of our Mississauga, Guelph or Hamilton Offices
.

The Role


As a member of the Field Services Team, you will be involved in a variety of municipal projects including road construction, waste transfer stations, gravity sewers, wastewater systems, pumping stations, etc.

under the direction of our Senior Team members.


The individual is responsible for daily coordination of assigned projects, including the possibility of periodic or resident inspection to determine if the project is progressing in General Conformance with the drawings and specifications.

You will be required to liaise between the owner, client, contractor and all other project stakeholders.


Duties may include:


  • Conducting onsite review of construction progress for general conformance with approved drawings and specifications for various project types;
  • Preparing and issuing site inspection reports;
  • Collecting/reviewing project as built information;
  • Reviewing monthly contractor progress payment draws/proper invoices and assisting with payment verification/certification;
  • Assisting with construction progress meetings and minutes;
  • Reviewing/assessing contractor change requests and claims, and assisting with negotiations if/as required;
  • Coordinating as required, with the client and contractor;
  • Liaising with municipal and governing authorities as required in support of the contract;
  • Reviewing and commenting on constructability aspects of design drawings;
  • Assisting with various contract administration duties in conjunction with the Contract Administrator;
  • Other duties as assigned or required.


This individual must be available to work
some evenings and weekends, as may be required to facilitate the inspection and administration of their assigned projects.


A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle are mandatory in order to commute to project locations.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • Ideally, 1-3 years of inspection as well as some related construction administration experience
  • Diploma in a related discipline is an asset but not mandatory
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office is an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • An understanding of office dynamics and exceptional interpersonal skills
  • The ability to manage time to complete multiple tasks
  • The ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including contractors, affected public /community members, and client/municipal staff
