    What is the Role

    At Horizon North, we are committed to developing our next generation leaders.

    Our 9-month Leadership Development Program for Supervisors gives top-performing, current employees, an opportunity to take their career to the next level

    Training will be delivered through on-the-job learning, mentorship, and structured learning.

    Graduates will receive certification and go on to fill Supervisor roles within the Company.

    What to Expect

    The program is split up into three, three-month sections.

    Section One (Months 1-3 )

    On day one you will be assigned your mentor. Your mentor will be a senior Horizon North leader who will support you through your journey. Your mentor will be there to provide support and provide guidance, answer questions, and be there to listen.

    On-the-job Training

    In section one, you will spend three, 30-day blocks of time, working a variety of positions in the kitchen. The purpose of this rotation is to get a basic understanding of the work that goes into keeping our guests well fed.

    Specific positions may vary based on the trainee's personal work history, although one can expect to perform the following roles:

  • General Helper – General cleaning in the kitchen, washing dishes, stocking.
  • 2nd Cook – Working alongside a 2nd cook, performing basic food preparation, making sandwiches, making salads.
  • Breakfast Assistant – Work along side a breakfast cook, preparing and serving breakfast.
  • Structured Lessons

    In addition to your on-the-job training, you will complete the following structured courses:

  • Train the Trainer – develops leadership and training skills to teach others new skills. Lessons delivered online and trainer lead.
  • First Time Quality (FTQ) – FTQ is the company quality control program. Participants will learn how standards are set, audited, and quality measured. Participants will be learn how to conduct audits within the operation. Delivered by trainer.
  • SUPERHOST – Customer service training for front-line staff. Practical skill and knowledge to meet and exceed customer expectations. Delivered online with mentor support.
  • Supervisor Skill Builders – Begin lesson one, 'You as a Supervisor" in your 9-module lesson plan designed to give new supervisors the knowledge they need to be successful leaders. Delivered online and mentor support.
  • Section Two (Months 4-6)

    On-the-job Training

    In section two, you will spend three, 30-day blocks of time working a variety of positions in Housekeeping and Administration. The purpose of this placement is to get a basic understanding of the work that goes into keeping our spaces clean and our lodging management system running.
    Specific positions may vary based on the trainee's personal work history, although one can expect to perform the following roles:

  • Housekeeper – Cleaning of guest rooms, washrooms, hallways, and laundry rooms.
  • Janitor - Cleaning of publics spaces, washrooms, hallways.
  • Administration – Work alongside a Guest Services Agent, you will learn how to check guests in/out of the lodge and run reports using the lodge property management system.
  • Structured Lessons

    In addition to your on-the-job training, you will continue to complete the eight remaining modules in your Supervisor Skill Builders program. Courses include:

    • Effective Communication

    • Conducting Orientation and Training

    • Staffing and Scheduling

    • Improving Employee Performance

    • Handling Problems and Conflicts

    • Motivation and Team Building

    • Leadership

    • Time Management

    Section Three (Months 7-9)

    On-the-job Training

    In this section, you will spend the next 90 days in a Supervisor Trainee role. You will work alongside a supervisor in your assigned department. You will put all the lessons learned into practice. Expect to schedule work, perform quality checks, and coach and motivate your team.

    Structured Lessons

    In addition to your on-the-job training, you will complete the following planned courses:

  • Safety Essentials for Supervisors and Managers, Safety Leadership training designed to equip future leaders with the tools to build an effective safety culture in the workplace. Facilitated by a trainer.
  • Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Training Educates leaders on the unique aspects of people and the workforce. Learning how to understand, support and embraced differences among employees.
  • Preventing Harassment in the Workplace, provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and strategies they need to identify and prevent harassment in the workplace. Delivered online, in-person, and with mentor support.
  • Follow Horizon North on , , and

    WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • You are a current, top performing employee, having worked with us for at least 90 days.
  • You have a letter of reference from a current Horizon North Manager or Community Leader recommending you for this role (include with your application)
