Work Schedule: 7:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Thursday / Tuesday to Friday (alternating months)


The Field Maintenance position is responsible for facilitating effective working and learning environments by providing a safe and clean environment for students, staff and the public.

The Field Maintenance position performs general and specialized maintenance functions of all school division buildings, mechanical operations, and grounds.

The Field Maintenance position reports directly to the Supervisor of Plant Operations for performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.


Duties:

Foster effective relationships with all stakeholders

Support the learning community


Support Facility Department Operations by:

Collaborating and working in a team setting

Prioritizing multiple demands and effectively managing time

Participating in professional growth opportunities

Assisting trades persons and contractors with repairs or renovations

Periodically investigating and responding to building operation emergencies outside of regular work hours

Travelling to facilities throughout the division to complete specific duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Operations.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

inspections, repairs and maintenance of roof systems, hardware, windows doors, flooring, suspended ceilings, drywall, painting, playground equipment, minor plumbing, minor electrical, cleaning and refurbishing of school furniture and facility equipment, testing emergency systems.

Supporting schools with routine maintenance and cleaning

Maintaining accurate record keeping

Staying up to date with required and related technology in order to effectively execute assigned tasks

Performing the duties of the caretaker of the flag(s)

Identifying and reporting areas of non-compliance


Responsibilities:

Ensure proper workflow and productivity for areas of responsibility

Ensure tasks assigned by the Supervisor of Plant Operations are carried out efficiently and effectively

Ensure proper utilization of work techniques is employed

Ensure proper communication relating to job requirements

Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance and safety standards are being met at all times

Promote the vision, mission, values and goals of the Chinook School Division

Desired Qualifications and Skills

Minimum of Grade 12 diploma from a recognized educational institution or General Education Development (GED) is required;
Fireman's Certificate is required (or willingness to obtain);
Fifth Class Engineering Certificate, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS and/or journeyperson designation in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical or painting is as asset;
Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance procedures, tools and equipment;
Demonstrated ability and knowledge of safe workplace practices;
Previous experience in a facility maintenance role;
Proficiency with hand and power tools and mechanical equipment;
Ability to read basic blueprints, mechanical drawings and interpret specifications;
Strong communication skills;
Must possess a valid Class V driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract;
Ability to work as part of a team;
Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision;
Ability to deal with a broad range of students, staff and members of the general public;
Ability to work in varied climates and conditions which may include: confined spaces, dust, vapours, fumes or slippery surfaces;
Good physical condition

Ability to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally

Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force frequently

Ability to exert up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects


Benefits:


Non-journeyperson wages: $24.72/hr to $26.13/hr


Journeyperson wages:
$32.41/hr to $36.39/hr
