POSITION SUMMARY
Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.
The Legislative Library is seeking a diligent, service oriented, and collaborative individual for the full-time position of Librarian.
Reporting to the Manager, Reference Services, the Librarian will work as part of a team of dedicated professionals to provide in-depth reference and information services to Members of the Legislative Assembly, their staff, and other library patrons.
The Librarian in this role will also take the lead in developing and delivering the library's instructional program. They will lead library orientations and provide training on using library resources. These sessions are customized to cater to various clients and are offered in groups, one-one-one, and online. Additionally, the Librarian will be responsible for developing and updating online instructional resources and will assist in facilitating training for fellow library staff. Therefore, preference may be given to candidates with any of following: experience with instruction in a library context, experience with reference and research services in an academic or government library, and experience working with legislation and government information.
To be successful in this role, the Librarian must demonstrate initiative and excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills, and be able to deliver high-quality information service under tight deadlines.
