Description:


Fourth level of the stores technician series, under general direction leads and directs a group of Stores Technicians I, II, and III's; or works independently performing complex and standard stores duties, including inventory management, warehouse and storage planning.

The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work.


INVENTORY MANAGEMENT/ WAREHOUSE AND STORAGE PLANNING
a) recommends and guides protocols and processes to ensure effective and efficient operation of the storeroom;
b) determines inventory to carry set up product; inventory levels; reordering of stock items;
c) provides input and recommendations to assist with warehouse and storage layout;
d) advises customers, stores technicians and others about material and equipment in stores area; such as product pricing, availability, safety data;
e) contacts suppliers directly and reorders stock items; consults with research and laboratory staff about supply needs; consults with sales representatives to obtain competitive pricing and quality product; sources product; determines preferred suppliers; makes purchasing decisions;
f) oversees the receiving, delivering and disposing of sensitive and dangerous items; following Environmental Health and Safety protocol and legislation;
g) contacts and consults with EH&S based on materials being warehoused;
h) maintains and upkeeps computerized inventory system;
i) deals with product problems and returns; resolves problems with materials, quality issues, process issues.


LEADERSHIP
a) leads and directs Stores Technicians I and/or II and/or III;
b) leads processes and employees in regards to scheduling, prioritizing, guiding workflow, training, delegating and resolving problems both internally and with customers and suppliers;
c) tracks progress of work assigned; monitors workloads; ensures completion of tasks assigned;
d) ensures that quality and safety standards are met;
e) may perform the duties of a Stores Technician I and/or II and/or III;
f) other related duties as required.


Minimum Requirements for Selection
(Experience and education required may depend on specific stores requirements)


Education:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience, related post secondary education is preferred. Logistics or warehousing course an asset.


Experience:
Three years of related experience. Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading warehousing practices and protocols.


Other:

Possession of valid provincial class "G" driver's license (may require provincial class "D" driver's license), physical ability to perform required duties including heavy lifting, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written), ability to lead, tact in dealing with people, ability to operate computerized inventory system (experience preferred), ability to drive, operate heavy duty vehicles and equipment and ability to work independently.

Decision making and judgement.vStrong computer skills - internet and MS office. Interpersonal and customer service skills. Training in transportation of dangerous goods offered. Attention to detail and accuracy.


General product knowledge:
familiarity with units of measure. Knowledge of Canada Post Corporation pricing, packaging and mail requirements. Knowledge of warehousing equipment and processes. Initiative and organizational skills. Ability to implement effective inventory control processes. Knowledge of environmental health and safety legislation. Knowledge of procedures for handling dangerous goods.
