What you'll be doing


Reporting to the Director, People & Talent, the People & Talent Generalist (PTG) provides day to day HR support for the People and Talent functions of the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

PTG works as a collaborative team but with the focus of an assigned client portfolio. Responsibilities include full cycle recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, performance management and other HR related support.

As the first point of contact for their client group employees and leaders, the PTG addresses inquiries and provides guidance and direct support over a wide range of HR matters.

Additionally, the PTG provides proactive support to the Director, People & Talent (P&T) and the Chief Officer, Communication & People.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Conducts HR orientations, including providing HRIS training and coordinating benefits enrollment. Supports hiring managers throughout the onboarding and probationary process to ensure new hires joining the organization are set up for success.
  • Builds effective partnerships with assigned client groups including developing a strong understanding of client's services and their business cycles. Compiles and analyzes HR metrics; identifies patterns, trends and issues; makes recommendations to support clients' people and staffing needs.
  • Supports the performance management process by providing training, follow up and other coaching support as needed to ensure the program is used effectively to enable performance planning and meaningful performance development and career conversations.
  • Creates and maintains a variety of documents, mostly of a confidential nature, including but not limited to: offer letters, excluded terms of employment, employee performance plans, correspondence, organizational charts, letters including letters of discipline, job postings, reports, proposals, presentations, external compensation surveys.
  • Acts as the first point of contact regarding HRrelated inquiries. In consultation with the Director, P&T, provides initial guidance and support on a variety of matters including, but not limited to, policy and collective agreement interpretation, absence and leave management processes and issues management, performance management, respectful workplace concerns, and conflict resolution.
  • Coordinates employee disability health claims and/or WorkSafeBC claims and return to work programs. Maintains accurate employee data in the HR system to facilitate payroll and benefits.
  • Maintains accurate, current and complete employee records, including ensuring the integrity of the HRIS data, online files, and other HR documentation. Maintains SME knowledge of the HRIS to help troubleshoot issues, provide training, and support ongoing releases and/or enhancement of the system.
  • Under the direction of the Director, P&T, assists in the implementation of talent management strategies in alignment with organizational priorities, particularly in attraction, retention, performance development and culture building.
