Description
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is initiating a project to develop and implement electrolyzer systems that convert carbon dioxide into chemicals.
The Department is currently seeking a research associate with expertise in electrochemical systems, energy, and engineering to lead this project, which will involve university and industry partners.
The Research Associate Term position will be responsible for:- Leading the design, development, and implementation of CO2 electrolyzers
- Evaluating the scalability of laboratory concepts
- Evaluating the technological pathways toward industrialization
- Managing and leading regular research meetings with the university and the industrial partner
- Developing research proposals, conducting research, preparing presentations and publications where appropriate
- Provide technical support to any graduate students engaged in the project when needed
- Develop and execute research vision with PI to achieve research goals.
- The research associate is expected to publish both at conferences and in journals.
Education
- PhD degree in operations research, polymer science and engineering, electrochemistry, electrolyzers or related field with emphasis on upscaling.
Experience
- Research experience of at least ten (10) years in academia, or equivalent experience in an industry setting
- Experience in conducting collaborative research, presenting to technical and nontechnical audiences, and preparing manuscripts for academic publications
- Experience with practical analytics projects implementable in the real world
Skills
- Expertise in polymer science, electrochemistry and their use in research, with general knowledge of electrolyzers
- Strong technical and analytical skills with solid understanding of research methodologies, upscaling, and peerreviewed publications
- Knowledge of the broad field of electrode and electrolyzer manufacturing technics, including roll to roll, spray and slurry coating.
- Familiarity with risk assessment linked to industrialization
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups
- Ability to initiate, refine, and complete projects with mínimal guidance
