Position Summary
Under the direction of the CFO, the Data Solutions Technician will support CDCI's data portfolio.

The Data Solutions Technician will generate data processing workflows; execute database management and maintenance; and provide database-specific technological support to CDCI Research Managers and Project Managers.

The Data Solutions Technician completes, or coordinates for completion where appropriate, data and database related requests. This includes delegation of assignments to the Database Specialists and eProcessing Team, with guidance from the Project Manager.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Data and Database Management

  • Completes or coordinates the completion of database management and data processing tasks by the data processing team, including the configuration of databases to support ingestion, analysis, and processing of supplied data
  • Reviews, analyzes and evaluates database systems and user needs to provide recommendations and solutions for both internal and external requirements and in parallel with overall departmental strategies
  • Recommends strategies and develops protocols and procedural documentation where required to ensure data integrity
  • Provides technical support to endusers on project database and softwarerelated issues: identifies, researches and resolves technical problems, working with outside vendors/technical support as needed and documents, tracks and monitors problems to ensure timely resolution
  • Advises on data collection protocols and manages data collection from client systems where required, as well as internal processes for proper storage, archiving, return and disposition of materials when required
  • Analyzes and coordinates data file conversions
  • Responsible for data collection best practices, as per project requirements, using a variety of toolsets including, but not limited to Nuix Evidence Mover, FTK Imager, Xcopy (Robocopy), etc.
  • Advise Project Managers and Research Managers of project risks and delays in completion of tasks
  • Advise on data and records management best practices, as relates to company security requirements, litigation responsibilities and archival and destruction methodologies

Experience and Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree/diploma OR professional certification AND/OR equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline (including, but not limited to asset management, information management, computer science, technology studies, or cybersecurity)
  • Minimum 2 years Nuix Discover/Ringtail experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the EDRM model and best practices
  • Experience planning and creating SQL databases, and structuring and executing SQL based queries
  • Experience performing text and imagebased quality assurance
  • Experience working with digital images
  • Experience working with textbased databases, particularly Microsoft Access and SQL
  • Knowledge of computer languages such as Python, R, JavaScript, DAX/M, and VBA an asset
  • Proficiency with MS 365 Office suite of software, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Query, PowerBI, PowerShell, and Power Automate
  • Experience working with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Premiere
  • Eligible to obtain PWGSC security clearance
  • Professional training and/or eDiscovery practitioner and software certifications designations or active pursuit of professional designations (i.e., ACEDS designation) an asset
  • Exceptional organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and multitask while working on multiple projects
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment
  • Experience training employees and preparing methodology documents
