The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range:
$61,154- $67,421 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range:
starting salary to max of $79,510 is available through annual performance increases.

_This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement_

Job SummaryThe Department of Chemistry offers multiple undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and its members conduct internationally recognized research in several fields of chemistry. It runs a full program of courses in chemistry designed for students intending to major in the field, as well as courses for students in a range of other programs. The Department utilizes a range of laboratories to provide experiential learning and research opportunities in chemistry courses. The Department fosters a culture of student engagement and success.

The Laboratory Assistant (LA) will support designated components of the undergraduate chemistry curriculum in the practical setting, including preparation of experimental set-ups, maintenance and cleaning of the teaching environment.

The LA is responsible for preparation of experimental set-ups, maintenance of designated teaching space and equipment/instrumentation.

There are often opportunities for the LA to take part in other activities of similar scope as best fit operational needs.

Job RequirementsThis position requires a BSc in Chemistry.

In addition, this position requires:

Good analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills
Good communication skills, both written and verbal, demonstrating diplomacy, integrity and tact in all interactions.
Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.

Experience working within a university environment.
