Description
The Physician Assistant will be a collaborative member of the Niagara Health Emergency Medicine program.

The PA is responsible for providing direct patient care, including the assessment, management, and treatment of adult and paediatric patients in the acute settings in accordance with the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation and site-specific medical directives.

The PA will also be expected to organize and manage departmental discrepancies, blood culture results, and work with the interdisciplinary team to ensure appropriate follow up has been arranged for patients who have left the department.

The PA is expected to work collaboratively under the direction of supervising physician(s) with nursing, allied health, and other members of the patient care team, including consulting services.

The role will entail working closely with patients, families, and the healthcare team to promote efficient and patient-centered care.

It will also entail reviewing all cases with the supervising physician in a face-to-face manner to ensure all physicians are comfortable with the evolving collaboration of the PAs program.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduate of a Canadian or US accredited Physician Assistant Education Program
  • Must be certified (CCPA or PA-C) or eligible for certification through the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or NCCPA (US certification)
  • Applies knowledge, skills, judgment, and competencies required for safe practice and patient safety as outlined in the professions' Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)/National Competency Profile
  • ACLS and PALS certification to be completed and maintained within three months of hiring.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to document clinical encounters in a thorough and efficient manner

  • Demonstrates role flexibility and superior organization skills
  • Ability to work efficiently to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fastpaced and dynamic environment in an interprofessional healthcare environment
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, make decisions and take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient or team inquiries
  • Excellent patient documentation: ability to document clinical encounters in a thorough and efficient manner
  • Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
  • Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
