The Wilson School of Design (WSD) has seven different programs that encourage students to take risks and innovate in small, personalized classes offering intensive hands-on learning experiences and state-of-the-art equipment.


POSITION OVERVIEW
The Interior Design department is a flexible learning environment supported by an atmosphere of respect and cooperation.

The externally accredited program fosters creative, technical, and research skills, knowledge, abilities, and attitudes students will need to become professional members of the interior design community.


The Interior Design department is seeking to update our qualified faculty list and looking to vet instructors from across KPU who are interested in teaching in our program.

As a result of program revisions from our program review, we are rolling out curricular changes, including a number of new courses, starting with the Fall 2023 cohort.

Calendar descriptions for IDSN courses are included at the end of the posting.


TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interior Design Studio and Design Theory (big picture thinking, design research strategies and methodologies, design projects and processes)
  • Design History (historical precedent in the built environment)
  • Visual Communication
  • Technical Information & Communication
  • Professional Awareness
  • Socially and environmentally responsible design, including human factors

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty members of the Interior Design department are also expected to contribute and participate in any of the following:
Curriculum development and review.

  • Assisting students outside of scheduled class time.
  • Preparation processes and site visits for Accreditation (CIDA).
  • Service and representation of the Interior Design department on various university committees, internally and externally.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, or related disciplines or academic credentials and professional experience appropriate to their areas of responsibility (Master's Degree preferred for fulltime faculty).
  • Membership / or eligible for membership in appropriate professional association /organization (appropriate to discipline). NCIDQ certification preferred for faculty teaching in Studio Courses AND for fulltime faculty.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience required. Postsecondary experience preferred.
  • Substantial Professional Portfolio reflecting a minimum of 8 to 10 years diverse experience related to the built environment and evidence of experience or expertise appropriate to specific course content.
