RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre.

Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.

Position summary

We seek a highly motivated, organized and meticulous individual with great attention to detail for a full-time position, to support the research activities of the Histopathology Platform and actively participate in its scientific development.

General Duties

  • Execute routine histology procedures including tissue processing and embedding,
  • Perform routine sectioning using microtome or cryostat (including frozen unfixed tissues),
  • Carry out H&E and special staining,
  • Prepare solutions in accordance to standard operating procedures,
  • Clean and maintain instruments as well as all work areas in excellent condition,
  • Dispose of hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines,
  • Document and maintain record of quality controlrelated information,
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and coordinate equipment maintenance,
  • Prepare and set up material and equipment, perform a variety of assays, analyses and tests,
  • Assist Platform users in the development of methodological tools for their individual projects,
  • Respond promptly to queries and requests for information,
  • Troubleshoot, correct and adapt published methodologies
  • Conduct other related tasks as assigned by the Platform Manager.

Education / Experience

  • D.E.P. in laboratory technique or BSc. in related field or equivalent experience,
  • Histotechnician certification (HT) preferred,
  • Minimum experience of 2 years as a histology technician,
  • Excellent sectioning skills using the microtome,
  • Excellente expertise de la coupe avec microtome et cryostat,
  • Compétences démontrées des procédures histologiques et de la microscopie optique de base,
  • Expérience dans le traitement et la coupe des tissus osseux serait un atout,
  • Manipulation et coupe de tissus nonfixés,
  • Bilingue: français et anglais,
  • Excellentes habilités en communication,
  • Capable de travailler sous pression et supervision mínimale,
  • Autonome et organisé,
  • Aptitude à travailler au sein d'une équipe, and cryostat,
  • Demonstrated expertise in histological procedures and basic light microscopy,
  • Experience in bone tissue processing and cutting is an asset,
  • Handling and cutting of unfixed tissues,
  • Bilingual: French and English,
  • Excellent communication skills,
  • Able to work under pressure and mínimal supervision,
  • Selfdirected and organized,
  • Ability to work within a team.

Status:
Temporary, Full-time


Pay Scale:
$39, $59, Commensurate to experience


Work Shift:
Full-time - 9am to 5pm.

CTB - Glen site
