    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • Certificate or Diploma in Human Services or related field. Preference may be given to Bachelor level education.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Proven experience supporting individuals with complex needs in harm reduction, conflict resolution, etc.
    • Experience working with Indigenous families and Communities.
    • Experience providing family support, youth support, social work, or related field.
    • Trauma informed practice training, Crisis Intervention training, Suicide Prevention training, or related certification(s).
    • Related education or training in mental illness/addictions/special needs and related issues.
    • Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, mental illness, and substance use are essential.

    JOB SUMMARY

    As part of the social development team, the Community Support Outreach Worker (CSOW) provides culturally sensitive, quality, and accountable services to Williams Lake First Nation members using a strength-based, trauma-informed approach. The CSOW provides culturally appropriate support, advice, and advocacy for community members as identified. The CSOW will collaborate with other WLFN staff and programs, community resources, and supports as identified.

    Through culturally based case management, the CSOW provides services to assist with problem solving and skill development including housing search services, referrals, and guidance. The CSOW will provide one on one support to clients including crisis support, follow up, transportation, accompaniment to appointments, and collaborating with other services.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Conduct meetings with clients in a professional and supportive manner.
    2. Provide regular follow up to clients, team members, community partners, etc.
    3. Provide follow-up post-crisis support including referring clients to appropriate agencies.
    4. Promote services provided by the program and/or organization and provide information / referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
    5. Liaise with and/or promote the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required.
    6. Provide information on community-based program schedules and events.
    7. Maintain comprehensive case notes for daily client interaction.
    8. Participate in afterhours community support rotation 1 week per month (8:00 am - 8:00 pm).
    9. Provide culturally competent practices and an understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
    10. Works closely with community-based programs on family/client needs.
    11. Maintain relevant records and statistics and provide reports to Social Development Manager.
    12. Provide education, referrals, and mentorship to clients on identified issues.
    13. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
    14. Contributes to the WLFN's ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
    15. Maintains WLFN's policy of Confidentiality, Code of Conduct, and other policies and procedures.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge

    • Knowledge of Williams Lake First Nation community, traditions, teachings, culture, protocols, and practices; and/or willingness to learn.
    • Knowledge of Secwepemc culture, language and traditions is considered an asset.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software

    • Strong facilitation, presentation, research, analytical, problem solving and report writing skills.
    • A team player, ability to develop effective and supportive relationships with all colleagues and promote/maintain collaborative approaches.
    • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
    • Operate as part of a team.
    • Maintain professionalism in all circumstances.
    • Recognize and respect cultural diversity and understand Indigenous culture.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Office Environment, In community, Transportation of clients
    • Most services are provided immediately.
    • To be aware of sensitivity, confidentiality and urgency of requests while balancing other work commitments.
    • Travel will be required.
    • Non-standard hours of work – May be required to accommodate the community needs and that may consist of evenings and weekends.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver's License
    • Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver's License.
