Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the
Claims Management Specialist supports the Canadian business units and employees in reviewing and administering both occupational and non-occupational injury and illness recovery and return to work.


Job Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Provide support and guidance to the field and direct management of complex claims working with insurance providers (WCB or Non-Occupational)
  • Work with vendors, employees, and management to ensure safety and early return to work
  • Support file management which may include appeals, nonparticipation by claimant and requirements for independent medical review
  • Oversee programs, which include work hardening, independent medical review, physical therapy, and retraining services for claimants
  • Report on claims, illness and RTW statistics and evaluates injury reports to assess compensation and to determine the anticipated cost of each claim
  • Engage HR Advisor team and/or business leader when required for escalation.

What you'll Need to Succeed:


  • Experience with complex disability claims management preferably in a unionized environment.
  • 35 years knowledge and understanding of applicable workers compensation laws, procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical and technical terminology used in workers compensation and disability cases.
  • Strong analytical and decisionmaking skills and the ability to multitask and balance multiple goals and priorities.
  • Strong communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Strong ability to plan and organize work and to function effectively within timeframes and deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Clear understanding of and adherence to privacy requirements and level of professionalism to protect confidential and sensitive employee information.

Education and Experience:


  • University Degree in a related field such as Human Resources, Rehabilitation Counselling, Health Sciences or Social Sciences.
  • A minimum of three to five (35) years of progressive experience in a related field such as disability/ WSIB management, health and safety, human resources or occupational health.

Assets:


  • Disability Management or ReturntoWork Certification (NIDMAR), Occupational Health Certification, or RN designation.
  • Bilingual (English/French)

Salary Range:
$ $80000
