Position:


This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Head of Retail leading the planning and advisory function of the Tax & Estate Planning team.

Leads a wide range of Canadian estate, income tax planning and advisory matters for Mackenzie Investments and manages a national team of experts on Tax & Estate Planning along with Practice Management.


Area of Responsibility/Key Accountabilities:


  • Key senior leader to allocate and manage network resources and develop and implement strategic Tax & Estate Planning initiatives and Philanthropic planning.
  • Establish, lead, and oversee standing committees and working groups together with your Tax & Estate Planning team, inspire and mentor a team of tax professionals within a hybrid working environment.
  • Provide thought leadership through internal and external writing and speaking engagements. Follow developing tax legislation and administration and develop policies and provide technical commentary and analysis to Retail Distribution and the broader organization.
  • Lead the strategy across internal and external consultations and preparation of technical memos, presentations and other material to disseminate tax related information throughout the network
  • Develop and lead advice and training to other MI departments on advanced taxation, estate planning and other financial planning issues (including the review of corporate materials, advertisements, client collateral relating to financial planning, participating on editorial committees for production of client publications, advising on new product development and on the appropriateness of various financial planning solutions).
  • Collaborate within the network to coordinate common initiatives such as tax education, professional practice and the development of tax resources; and provide technical tax resources and guidance to the network
  • Oversee the Practice Management Team in coordination with Tax & Estate Planning initiatives to coordinate compliant marketing pieces and presentations for advisors. This team, similar to Tax & Estate Planning team work closely with Retail Distribution and National Accounts to provide education and consultation for independent advisors with a view to growing their business and using Mackenzie funds to do so.

Requirements:


  • CPA designation or law degree, CFP completion or a Masters of Tax degree
  • Trust and Estate Practitioner
  • A minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience working predominantly in tax, with 7+ years of senior leadership experience;
  • Extensive practical experience and familiarity with tax issues faced by members in practice and in business. Previous experience leading a tax group is an asset;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and training skills.
  • Bilingualism in French and English would be an asset
