The Department of Applied Psychology & Human Development (APHD) is a research-intensive Department, boasting some of the finest, internationally-known scholars in their fields who teach in our five graduate programs: Child Study and Education (Teacher Education program); Counselling and Clinical Psychology; Counselling Psychology; Developmental Psychology and Education; School and Clinical Child Psychology.

Our programs focus on basic and applied research pertaining to children, adolescents and adults.


Your opportunity:


The incumbent contributes to the development and implementation of the APHD recruitment communication strategy by ensuring all communications are attentive to recruitment needs.

Works with the APHD Communications Officer and the OISE Communications Department on various communication tools (i.e. recruitment brochures, event posters, websites, social media tools); researches best practices and collaborates with other Faculties around the university to share existing best practices in recruitment, marketing and communication strategies. Makes recommendations for communication messaging and produces detailed reports for future activity (i.e. reaching new markets).


The incumbent is responsible for responding to general inquiries from students who are in the assigned programs; serves as a key resource for policies, procedures, and timelines; administering all aspects of the program for the students part of funded cohort and outside the funded cohort.

The incumbent works with the Cohort Coordinator and Department Chair to foster a knowledge building community that will include students, and others from across APHD, the Institute of Child Study (ICS), and OISE.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Conducting detailed data analysis to inform recruitment strategies and plans
  • Fostering and maintaining a network of external contacts to support recruitment strategies
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Delivering student recruitment presentations
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
  • Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (i.e. communication, marketing) or acceptable combination of relevant education and related work experience.
  • Minimum four years recent and related experience in graduate student recruitment, student life, and/or admissions, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience presenting to diverse groups and advising prospective students and parents.
  • Experience providing students with relevant academic guidelines and procedures and providing relevant information.
  • Experience with web content development, data collection and manipulation, online communication strategies, marketing materials, and webbased marketing is required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, using and maintaining an online database system is required.
  • Experience in planning for and running events is required.
  • Experience with student information systems such as ROSI.
  • Experience with online courseware systems such as Blackboard, including posting materials on the Web.
  • Demonstrated experience and effective use of social media tools (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) and RSVP management tools in a professional setting.
  • Experience working in a busy, fastpaced environment with a high volume of student inquiries.
  • Advanced skills with MS 365 (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook). Ability to learn new information and technology quickly and at a detailed level.
