Research Technician (Term)

D U T I E S
Reporting to the Research Manager, Red River College Polytechnic is seeking a Food Research
Technician to support industry driven applied research initiatives with the Prairie Research
Kitchen - RRC Polytech's Technology Access Centre in Food Research. The incumbent is
responsible for carrying out food product development projects with industry. This includes
operating and maintaining commercial kitchen and food processing equipment, supervising
student researchers, and providing culinary knowledge to the research process. The incumbent
is expected to undertake literature and market research to inform the product development
process, conduct hands-on research, collect and analyze data, and assist with the preparation
and presentation of the final report to clients. The incumbent will also be responsible for the
identification of supplies and ingredients required for research, operation, and maintenance of
culinary and lab equipment, safety processes, and development of procedures as required.

  • R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S
  • Diploma in culinary arts; equivalent combination of education and experience may be

- considered
  • Demonstrated culinary skills
  • Experience conducting and documenting food product development research with high level of
- organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience operating and maintaining commercial kitchen equipment
  • Experience executing product formulations and scaleup of formulations
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and market research and generating results reports
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent written skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to give presentations
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and
continuous improvement
