Position Description:


Patient Information Clerk


We are looking for an experienced Patient Information Clerk (PIC) to join
The Transplant and Medical Specialties Programs of Dialysis Apheresis and 4C Medical Daycare on a part-time basis to provide team-oriented services for staff, patients, and families in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


As a key member of the unit's workflow, the PIC will support these complex and high-performing clinical areas for patients with significant life-limiting conditions.

The PIC will assist with patient registration/admissions/discharges, ensure thorough communication, manage documents, equipment, and supplies, and provide well-rounded customer service to support children and families as they experience acute and chronic illnesses.


What do these programs do?
You will work across 2 different physical areas, including:

  • 4C, a medical day care unit serving a uniquely complex and diverse population of patients to provide daytime medication infusions and procedures.
  • Hemodialysis Apheresis, a day treatment unit serving patients with chronic lifelimiting illnesses requiring intermittent and ongoing treatments for kidney failure and blood disorders.


Given the breadth and depth of exposure to many interrelated systems and services, the related Transplant and Medical Specialties area provides an excellent foundation for those aspiring for developing toward future careers in medical administration in a variety of environments including critical care, emergency department, operating room, and ambulatory/community settings.


Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Greet patients and families, and assist in providing daily living needs as appropriate
  • Provide navigation, unit/department policyrelated guidance, and provide wayfinding information
  • Register, input, organize and maintain patient chart information in electronic and paper systems
  • Maintain unit flow, patient bookings, incoming and outgoing service activity, electronic calendar/schedules
  • Manage flow of equipment, devices, supplies across the unit and hospital
  • Coordinate unit administrative functions locally and between multiple areas of hospital to ensure efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical, allied health, and support staff to coordinate patient care
  • Demonstrate critical thinking to assess and proactively act on the administrative support needs of clinical teams
  • Prepare requisitions, referrals, labels, and other documents

Here's What You'll Need

  • Diploma from a recognized Medical Administration program preferred
  • Medical Terminology certificate preferred
  • Previous clerical experience, preferably in a hospital/medical environment
  • Experience with patient registration systems is required (Knowledge of Epic is an asset)
  • Proficiency with computers (i.e., MS Office Suite, Outlook, MS Word)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills
  • Punctuality, reliability, commitment
  • Strong critical thinking and problemsolving abilities
  • Ability to be selfdirected, to be flexible and to take initiative
  • Attention to detail and efficient time management
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional etiquette

Position Details

Permanent Part-Time (0.75 FTE):


  • MUST be available to work flexibly on weekdays
  • Monday to Friday from shifts starting at 0645, 0700 or 0800
  • Health/dental benefits and pension offered
