The Langley School District is seeking applicants for the position of
Junior Buyer (Purchasing Department) for a full-time, continuing position.

This is a 35 hour/week position.


SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Assistant Purchasing Manager, the Junior Buyer is primarily responsible for the acquisition of equipment, supplies and services for the School Board Office and to act as the School District's Purchase Card ("PCard") Administrator.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Processes purchase orders for various departments at the School Board Office, i.e. Financial Services, Human Resources, Instructional Services, and Learning Support Services, while ensuring adherence to District Purchasing Procedures.
  • Liaises with internal customers to research, analyze, and compile data regarding product information and makes recommendations.
  • Responsible for assigning applicable tax codes and exemptions.
  • Prepares Solicitation Documents (Invitations to Quote). Assesses quotations by suppliers and makes recommendation of award.
  • Processes purchase requisition for "Confirmation" or "Invoice Only" purchases, for the entire District.
  • Creates and renews Standing Purchase Orders for the entire District, ensuring vendor acknowledgement and adherence to District Terms and Conditions.
  • Performs miscellaneous purchasing processes, such as Vendor Acknowledgements, Returns, and Expediting.
  • Assists Purchasing Manager with License to Occupy agreements by ensuring agreements are up to date, payments are current and preparing reports.
  • Assists Purchasing staff with maintenance of online District catalogues.
  • Assists Purchasing staff with miscellaneous duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduation and completion of Purchasing or Supply Chain management courses offered by a recognized education institution or supply chain association, or relevant combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related experience, preferably in a Purchasing Department environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using tact and discretion in the explanation and clarification of information.
  • Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate action within limits of established methods and Purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with constant interruptions and the necessity to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain concentration.
  • Good knowledge of business English and business math.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties.

Rate of pay is $27.76/hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
