_Purpose_
The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, or tending machines to roll steel or plastic forming bends, beads, knurls, rolls, or plate or to flatten, temper, or reduce gauge of material.
_Competency Requirements _
Job Knowledge:
☐ Read rolling orders, blueprints, and mill schedules to determine setup specifications, work sequences, product dimensions, and installation procedures.
☐ Operate and set up machines to perform repetitive operations
☐ Select, position, and align roller dies in machine
☐ Manipulate controls and observe dial indicators in order to monitor, adjust, and regulate speeds of machine mechanisms.
Work Quality:
☐ Examine, inspect, and measure raw materials and finished products to verify conformance to specifications.
☐ Signal and assist other workers to remove and position equipment, fill hoppers, and feed materials into machines.
☐ Start operation of rolling and milling machines to flatten, temper, form, and reduce sheet metal sections and to produce steel strips.
Work Rate:
☐ Record mill production on schedule sheets.
Communications:
☐ Collaborate with supervisor and co-workers to ensure an on-time quality product and to accomplish work goals.
☐ Exchange information and knowledge on issues encountered.
☐ Communicate safety and production issues to supervisor
Interpersonal:
☐Maintain positive and productive working relationships with supervisor, other
Relations:
☐ shop employees, engineering and office staff.
☐ Be courteous and helpful when dealing with customers, suppliers and with
coworkers.
Policy Compliance:
☐ Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and policies as outlined in the Company Health and Safety manual to prevent workplace injuries including using personal protective equipment, using protective devises on equipment, performing all pre-use inspections as required, follow lockout procedures and report all injuries
☐ Strictly adhere to machine safety manual
☐ Follow all company rules and regulations as outlined in the Employee Handbook
☐ Follow departmental processes required by ISO and actively participate in recommending improvements
☐ Complete daily Labour Sheets ensuring accurate allocation of time spent.
_Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

- *_*☐ High school with some technical training
Licenses/Certificates:
☐ Crane and Forklift certifications
Experience:
☐ Experience in roll forming or tube mill production
Skills:
☐ Good communication skills to gain and provide understanding of issues.
☐ Ability to read mechanical engineering drawings
☐ Ability to do your own set-up is mandatory
☐ Ability to work to very close tolerances
☐ Must be very detail and quality oriented
_Work Environment _
☐ Normal for an industrial heavy metal manufacturing environment.
☐ Works with heavy parts, near moving mechanical parts, and material handling
equipment.
☐ Environment can be noisy and there is a risk of injury while machine is being
tested.
☐ Hot environment during summer season
_Physical Demands:

☐ Ability to stand or walk for most of the day
☐ Manually lift objects up to 60 Ibs

☐ Ability to work weekend and/or evening as necessary in order to meet quality and due dates
