This is a hybrid role based out of our Toronto office days a week in the office) at Yonge and Eglinton.

About the Role:

Convenience Store News Canada is seeking an Associate Editor (print & digital), who has writing and technology skills to elevate our B2B content across all platforms.

The Associate Editor will create and amplify content and engage in activities that enhance the discoverability of Convenience Store News Canada and OCTANE.


Key responsibilities include writing, editing, producing and amplifying authoritative and insightful content for integrated brand platforms, with a primary focus on managing content for the website, and producing digital e-newsletters, as well as posting on social media platforms.

The editor will also contribute to the print magazines and related products, such as awards programs.

The role requires strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to juggle deadlines—the Associate Editor will quickly turn around daily news pieces, while also working on longer features.


The Associate Editor will help manage the day-to-day needs of the brand, while also cultivating relationships and interacting with industry sources to source content ideas, while also helping build awareness of Convenience Store News Canada and OCTANE.


Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch, create, produce and manage highquality content in a fastpaced, deadlinedriven environment for Convenience Store News Canada's weekly enewsletters
  • Pitch and write features for Convenience Store News Canada and OCTANE print magazines, of which there are six a year
  • Assign, proofread and edit material as needed
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team with professionals, such as web designers, marketing executives and photographers to improve content strategy
  • Build relationships with industry sources and collaborate with other team members, including contractors and freelancers
  • Adhere to copyright and privacy standards and company policies
  • Assign and manage the work of freelance writers
  • Leverage leading social media platforms to drive brand awareness and engagement
  • Supervise and manage the layout of images, graphics, videos and other artwork on digital platforms
  • Regularly monitor and track content performance
  • Attend digital and physical events as needed and occasionally work evenings/weekends based on breaking news, special reports or live event coverage
  • Track and analyze website traffic and key drivers of engagement
  • Keep abreast of new trends in digital technology
  • Maintaining relationships with, and building upon, our roster of columnists
  • Liaising with sales on sponsored content production
years of B2B writing/editing experience

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
  • A passion for retailing, particularly food retailing, is of value
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, editing and copywriting skills
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Press style conventions
  • Available portfolio of published work
  • Knowledge of software such Photoshop, etc.
  • A basic knowledge of HTML
  • Understanding of best SEO practices
  • Knowledge of Marketing and SEO tools
  • Knowledge of content management systems, such as Drupal
  • Attention to detail, creative thinking and problemsolving
  • Great organizational, timemanagement, interpersonal and communication skills
  • An ability to maintain quality and consistency across media types and web platforms
  • Travel to industry events required in the Toronto / GTA area
