Communications Specialist

Salary Range:
$57,077.03 to $77,221.87**
Location: 2150 Chevrier Blvd., and/or remotely, as required

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications the Communications Specialist is primarily responsible for content development and management for various communications and marketing-focused digital and print executions.

These roles will be achieved in collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to advance MITT's strategic priorities and grow its reputation as a secondary and post-secondary institute of choice in Manitoba.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Researching, coordinating source material, developing and editing content for external communications and marketing materials, including key publications, advertising, e-newsletters, media releases, print material, and other organizational position pieces.
  • Building relationships with internal stakeholders to find and sharing stories that highlight what's happening within the MITT community to both external and internal audiences.
  • Working closely with the Senior Manager, Communications to develop a robust communications calendar and communications strategies.
  • Leading communications projects and meetings as assigned by the Senior Manager, Communications.
  • Helping lead and contribute to internal communication initiatives and materials including managing all aspects of MITT Matters, the biweekly staff enewsletter.
  • Working with the Marketing team to lead and complete project requests flowing through the marketing department.
  • Developing web and blog content and work with departments to ensure existing content is current and refreshed as needed.
  • Building and maintaining MITT's social media calendar through connection with internal stakeholders and in adherence with social media guidelines and MITT brand standards. Creating and scheduling all posts, ensuring consistency, monitoring channels, and responding to inquiries, where possible.
  • Providing photography for social media and other communication materials.
  • Tracking, analyzing, and regularly reporting on key performance metrics across MITT's social media channels.
  • Researching and adopting emerging best practices in communications and social media.
  • Providing support to External Relations events, including the development and deployment of invitations, surveys, event photography, and general volunteering at marquee College events (i.e. Open House). Supporting the Senior Manager, Communications, with drafting or reviewing of corporate communications materials for the President's Office, Executive Council, government, donor, or media relations.
  • Supporting the general communications needs of the institute and ensure MITT's reputation is maintained.

Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered._
  • Minimum of five years of experience in communications or marketing
  • Innovative and creative storyteller
  • Expertise in multiple new media platforms
  • Knowledge of SEO/SEM keyword research and Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press conventions (CP Stylebook, CP Caps and Spelling)
  • Experience with social media management platforms
  • Working knowledge of MS Office

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:


  • Experience in web design and content production an asset
  • Photography and video/videoediting skills an asset
  • Experience in postsecondary educational setting an asset
  • Experience with project management software
