Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, Telecommunications Planning & Engineering, this position will be primarily responsible for activities related to the capital maintenance program, Operational and maintenance support, and regulatory compliance associated with ATCO Electric's (AE) Operational Technology (OT) LANs.


Responsibilities:


  • Planning and designing secure and resilient voice and data Local Area Networks in transmission control centers and substations including:
  • Creating operational LAN architecture and technology standards that meet current industry norms, regulatory requirements, and consider security enhancements for the future.
  • Working closely with the Operational Cyber Security team to address emergent network security issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Working closely with other planners to communicate current and forecasted WAN bandwidth requirements.
  • Proactively researching emergent operational security improvement project opportunities.
  • Working with stakeholders across ATCO Electric to develop annual capital maintenance programs including:
  • Develop and maintain a prioritized list of project proposals to address current and forecasted needs in the operational LANs.
  • For each project proposal, compile and maintain data on the need, develop and cost the solution options, and provide a recommendation from among them.
  • Assist Project Managers with understanding project scopes and interdependencies associated with the operational LANrelated components of capital maintenance programs.
  • Participate in business case development and support the development of regulatory submissions associated with the capital maintenance program.
  • Work with Asset Management to prioritize emergent network issues in the Transmission Capital Maintenance / Distribution Capital Maintenance program as appropriate.
  • Ensure that recordkeeping for operational LAN assets as they are implemented and retired is maintained appropriately in systems like Maximo and Oracle.
  • Supporting ongoing operations and maintenance activities, including:
  • Review and approve upcoming firmware updates to operational LAN and WAN related equipment.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance standards for operational LANrelated equipment.
  • Assist Asset Management with annual planning and prioritization of Preventative Maintenance (PMs) on operational LAN assets.
  • Assist Asset Management with the development and maintenance of the Operational Status index for operational LAN assets.
  • Take the lead on developing technology and procedural solutions to ensure and demonstrate compliance with current and emerging operational cyber security regulatory requirements.
  • Take the lead within Telecom Planning & Engineering on contracts for support services provided to ATCO by 3rd parties such as Cisco, Nokia, Aviat, Etherstack, Intertalk, DPS, and Checkpoint.

Qualifications:


  • A degree or diploma from a university or technology institute in the area of telecommunications, computers, computer networking, or another similar program.
  • Appropriate technology certifications in the area of computer networking.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in networking and/or cyber security ideally in a utility environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and contribute in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to selfschedule activities required in multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong knowledge of networking and cybersecurity principles in network design and 3rd party network offerings.
  • Selfhealing network topologies and principles knowledge is an asset.
