Stolk Construction is currently recruiting a
Junior Estimator who shares our mission and principles.
Their overall responsibilities will be to work alongside the Pre-Construction Team to ensure projects are managed according to strict deadlines and within budget, as well as to manage existing and potential clients to ensure continued growth.
Main Accountabilities:
- Understand the scope of work being quoted
- Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications and related documents to be reviewed by the Pre-Construction Manager
- Communicate with team members in a timely and effective manner
- Prepare estimates in detail for all products and in a timely manner
- Assist with evaluation of subtrade pricing
- Complete quantity takeoffs
- Field verify dimensions as required during the tender and estimating periods
- Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Compute costs by analyzing labour, material, and time requirements
- Clearly present prepared estimate to Pre-Construction Manager
- Utilize software and appropriate systems
- Visit project sites, and attends meetings as needed
- Work in a safe and healthy manner by following and promoting all company health and safety policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by the Pre-Construction Manager
Skills:
- Demonstrated numeric and estimating skills required to calculate materials and produce accurate quotations
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage various projects
- Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, drafts and designs
- Demonstrated understanding of quality standards relative to tender submission and cost effectiveness
- Ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required
- Proficient communication skills, both oral and written to disseminate information with clarity, in one on one, or group situations
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing and facilitate editing and/or proofreading
- Ability to work in a professional manner; demonstrating tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates, customers and colleagues, including senior management
- Thorough makes sure work is done correctly and thoroughly, attentive to details, keeps accurate records
- Proactive anticipates and initiates action to meet needs
- Adaptable able to work with diverse personalities and styles
Education and Job Knowledge:
- Construction Engineering Technology diploma
- WHMIS
- AODA
- Worker Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps
