When a major project is proposed in British Columbia, it must undergo an environmental assessment (EA). In B.C. environmental assessments are managed by the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO), a neutral regulatory agency within the provincial government.

  • The EAO undertakes rigorous, thorough reviews of major projects in British Columbia. These reviews require active engagement by EAO staff with Indigenous groups, government agencies and the public to administer environmental assessments. The EAO maintains a comprehensive compliance and enforcement program and coordinates compliance management with other government agencies to ensure projects are built and operating as required. The EAO also has inhouse policy and information technology professionals to support administration of the regulatory and compliance management activities.
  • The Human Resource Assistant provides assistance and administrative support including recruitment support and guidance regarding the correct interpretation of human resource management policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:


  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Human Resources or directly related area (business or office administration) and one (1) year experience in the human resources field; OR
  • Completion of postsecondary course work in Human Resources and three (3) years experience in the human resources field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include:


  • Experience leading human resource administrative functions in an office environment, including supporting employees with inquiries related to leave management and payroll, consulting with the appropriate agency for guidance, submitting paperwork and verifying information.
  • Experience coordinating and participating in recruitment, selection, and hiring processes.
  • Experience coordinating onboarding and offboarding.
  • Experience proofreading and formatting correspondence.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Experience leading human resources administrative functions in a union workplace.
  • Experience working with BC Public Service Agency Human Resource policies, practices, and standards as related to recruitment.
  • Applicants who identify as Black, Indigenous or a person of colour (BIPOC), people who identify as LGBTQ2S+ and/or people with disabilities
