WBF is enacting a renewed strategy that surrounds growth of impact across Alberta and other provinces. A new organizational structure has been designed to help ensure this strategy is achieved. Reporting to WBF's Director of Training & Development, the role is accountable to lead WBF's HSE policies, programs and management systems across all of our operations and help build and promote a positive HSE culture.

This is an in-person role at our head office location in Edmonton, however WBF operates our life changing programs all over Alberta and is entering Saskatchewan and Ontario.

As such this role is responsible for our main Edmonton region location as well as our partner training providers in other regions.

Occasional travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities: HSE Ownership and Oversight**- Develop and implement new HSE policies, procedures and programs as required.

Maintain and provide oversight on existing HSE policies, procedures and programs.

  • Ensure WBF adheres to appropriate Occupational Health and Safety expectations.
  • Ownership of WBF's emergency preparedness procedures and drills
  • Lead and monitor safety practices within the organization by creating, assessing, complying, and advising management on ways to lower risks and prevent events.
  • Maintain ACSA Certificate of Recognition (COR) standards and conduct internal audits as per COR certification requirements.
  • Oversight of new hire/student safety orientations.
  • Oversight of contractor safety requirements.
  • Ownership of HSE related risk assessments, safety audit systems, inspections, and safety meetings.
  • Ownership of HSE audit and inspection management systems
  • Lead the Health and Safety Committee presenting recommendations to the organization.
  • Oversees and directs incident investigation and analysis.
  • Responsible all HSE metrics and for keeping records of HSE related incidents and closure of recommendations / administration of corrective actions.
  • Conducts offsite HSE visits of WBF staff, training partner facilities etc as necessary.
  • Ensure processes in place for the safe operation of shops, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is available and used correctly.

Key Responsibilities:
HSE Training**- Engage with staff, students and instructors to ensure the intended implementation and oversight of safety training

  • Organize and enable staff participation in HSE training as required.

Education and Training:


  • Post-Secondary education in related HSE discipline
  • A proven HSE leader, 7+ Years of experience in health and safety trades environment


  • Safety designation

  • CRSP, CST, NCSO or CSO preferred
  • Experience in safety auditing preferred
  • Experienced course facilitator familiar with adult education principles.
  • Able to deliver safety ticket training which may include (but not limited to) first aid, H2S, fall protection and confined spaces, etc. preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision while paying close attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of remote work practices.
