- Review and enhance underwriting guidelines, policy forms, and training materials.
- Proactively monitor portfolio performance.
- Identify opportunities for growth and suggest necessary actions.
- Act as a technical point of contact for inquiries related to Property and Equipment Breakdown.
- Contribute to special projects that support the development and enhancement of new or existing products, covering required wordings, guidelines, training, system implementation, and compliance.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure adherence to regulations.
- Offer assistance to new Underwriters on underwriting standards, coverages, and policy forms.
- Conduct ongoing market research, stay informed about industry trends, and understand market terminologies.
- Participate actively in industry events and conferences to keep abreast of industry challenges and contribute to shaping industry norms.
- Postsecondary education is a must.
- Holding a CIP designation or being on track to obtain one is preferred.
- 2 - 4 years of experience in commercial property underwriting.
- Experience in underwriting large and complex risks, including renewable energy and power generation, is a bonus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines accurately.
- Ability to build and nurture relationships with key internal stakeholders.
- Superb research, attention to detail, and innovative problem-solving abilities.
- Great team player, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative setting.

Primary Objectives:
The Underwriter - Property & Equipment will play a key role in upholding and enhancing underwriting standards at HSB Canada. As a member of the Corporate Underwriting team, the Underwriter will be involved in challenging projects and will contribute to sustaining the profitability and competitiveness of our leading specialty insurance products. Reporting to the Manager of Underwriting Equipment Breakdown & Property, this position is based at our Head Office in downtown Toronto, making it an ideal fit for an innovative problem-solver with a keen interest in learning.
