Position Summary


Responsible for all payroll processing, maintaining and reconciling payroll records, producing necessary reports, as well as conducting year-end balancing of payroll for the West Park site of University Health Network, with the potential for scope included to evolve over time.

Also responsible for the submission of all annual legal payroll related filings (e.g. T4's, PIER report, WSIB, EHT) and for the facilitation of statutory audits as required. The Payroll Supervisor will provide direct supervision to a payroll team.


Duties

  • Perform proactive maintenance by inspecting equipment to identify and rectify issues before they lead to breakdowns.
  • Collaborate with HR to process employee terminations in accordance with settlement agreements.
  • Prepare essential payroll remittances, including taxes, HOOPP, and EHT.
  • Ensure precise and punctual submission of annual filings and reports to CRA, including T4 and T4As, as well as HOOPP.
  • Reconcile and submit monthly remittances to benefit carriers for selfadministered benefits.
  • Record payroll journals, monthly vacation/stat accruals, and days' accrual in the General Ledger.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts, such as taxes, extended health benefits, and HOOPP contributions.
  • Monitor employees' 6th sick status and report exceptions promptly.
  • Ensure accurate and timely retroactive payments to employees when required.
  • Mentor and coach payroll staff, including timesheet and vacation approval.
  • Prepare employment verification letters.
  • Track employee leaves, prepare ROEs as necessary, and calculate maternity leave topups. Bill employees who prepay for pension and benefits.
  • Collaborate with IT and payroll software vendor to manage payroll software updates, patches, and system modifications, adhering to best practices, rigorous testing, and vendor requirements.
  • Optimize existing payroll processes to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Provide analysis for ad hoc reports for external stakeholders, including MOH, OHA, and unions.

Qualifications:


  • Diploma, Certificate, or Apprenticeship in Applied Technology or a related field.
  • Post-Secondary Certificate in Payroll, Accounting, or Computer Systems.
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP), or actively working towards it.
  • 7 years of payroll experience, including remittance and annual reporting submissions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, including account reconciliations.
  • Proficient computer skills, with intermediate Excel proficiency and knowledge of Crystal report writer preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Previous experience processing payroll in a union environment.
  • Awareness of conditions and measures that may impact the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians, and visitors.
  • Related experience in a public sector environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Empath payroll system preferred
