Position Description:


The
Professor, Construction Management is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective, learning-centered environment for students through the design and delivery of curriculum within the Angelo DelZotto School of Construction Managementat George Brown.

The professor will teach courses to students in all years at the degree level, in the
Honours Bachelor of Construction Management programs (T312, T314, T316, T317, T318, T319) in addition to other degrees, diplomas, and certificate level courses when required.


Education / Certification / Designation:


  • A minimum Master's Degree in Construction Engineering and Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Quantity Surveying.
  • A PhD is preferred.
  • Current certification or professional designation in engineering (PEO), architecture (OAA), quantity surveying (CIQS), or project management (PMP) is required.

Experience:


  • Five (5) fulltime years of recent industry relevant experience in the construction and building sector.
  • Knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas:
  • Construction methods, materials, and practices.
  • Construction site operations and management.
  • Risk, quality, cost, and safety management of construction projects.
  • Quantity surveying and estimating.
  • Construction planning and scheduling.
  • Budgeting, costing, bidding, and procurement practices.
  • Construction financing and economics, and contract and project administration.
  • Sustainability practices and green buildings.
  • A history of scholarship and peer reviewed publications will be an asset.
  • Prior postsecondary teaching training and experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design experience will be preferred and will be applied in a variety of teaching and learning settings.

Knowledge / Skills Set:


A thorough knowledge of current trends in construction and building practice, with proven ability to teach the entry-level practitioner in the classroom, laboratory, and online settings will be required.

Academic leadership experience in a post-secondary program is an asset.

  • Must have experience with advanced learning technologies, including online delivery.
  • Involvement in innovation and professional development related to teaching, use of technology, and student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and lifelong learning.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.

Interview process will consist of a mock teaching experience and, in some cases, a practical skills component.
