Brazeau County is looking for a seasonal
Labourer to join our
Public Works Maintenance team from May to December. Our seasonal workers are offered great perks including health and dental benefits, safety allowance, and wellness benefits. You will receive job and safety training and be provided with personal protective equipment.

***The Labourer's primary responsibility is to perform general labour duties on the maintenance crew. The Labourer assists in all operational areas of the maintenance department and may be assigned work with other departments as required. Some duties may require successful teamwork or a strong ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.


Responsibilities:


  • Performs general labour including brushing, fencing, debris removal, painting, trenching, pipeline exposure, sign placement, repair, etc.
  • Crack sealing on paved roads within the County during the summer season.
  • Flagging as required.
  • May be required to operate light equipment including skid steer, bobcat, or mower tractor.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County's policies and administrative directives, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the _Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act,_ regulations, and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
  • Overtime and weekend work will be required as necessary for operational needs.
  • Shift work may be implemented as required, this may include emergency response callouts.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
  • May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

Competency Areas:


Education/Training:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications/Designation:


  • A valid Class 5 License is required.
  • A satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver's Abstract is required.

Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:


  • Labourer or light equipment experience is considered an asset but not required.
  • A strong service focus with good verbal and written communication skills is required to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to carry out physical labor
  • Ability to follow directions given by supervisory staff.
  • Knowledge of road construction or maintenance is preferred
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Basic computer skills are required

Working Conditions:


Physical Requirements:


  • Labourer activities require considerable physical effort such as moving, standing, lifting, or pulling awkward objects. Activities may involve high repetition of work such as digging or lifting.

Shift and Rate of Pay:


  • Grid 2A 2D ($ $26.66)
  • Designated as Seasonal
  • Work season is approximately from May 13th to December 1st, 202 40 hours per week
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
  • The probationary period applies
