    Mining Business Development Operative

Join to apply for the Mining Business Development Operative role at ALS. This hands‑on role combines technical expertise with sales and client relationship management. As a Business Development Operative, you'll support growth by identifying new opportunities, building client relationships, and guiding the sales process—particularly in emerging markets. Your background in mineral processing and metallurgy will allow you to engage effectively with clients and understand their operational needs.

Success requires strong communication, a proactive approach, and the ability to translate insights into strategic actions. You'll work closely with the Business Development Manager and technical teams to deliver tailored solutions that meet each site's unique requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Scope prospective opportunities and collaborate with regional BD teams to prepare detailed financial analyses and proposals for submission to clients.
    • Expand the scope of current service offering to existing clients through ALS services.
    • Identify new, opportunistic leads to support the global sales pipeline.
    • Serve as a liaison between clients and internal teams to ensure seamless communication, timely delivery of services, and prompt resolution of issues or concerns.
    • Understand site‑specific needs and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop new products and services.
    • Maintain strong relationships with key decision‑makers within existing and potential client organizations.
    • Participate in industry events, conferences, and networking activities to build brand awareness and generate leads.
    • Support marketing and promotional initiatives targeted at increasing brand visibility and market share.
    • Encourage customer feedback to identify growth business opportunities.
    • Assist in implementing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to support global MPTS teams.

    About You

    • Strong understanding of mineral processing and metallurgical processes.
    • Familiarity with mine site operations, including lab workflows, sampling procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Knowledge of chemical analysis techniques, reagent handling, and equipment used in on‑site labs.
    • Understanding of proposal writing, cost estimation, and technical sales in the mining industry.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients and technical teams.
    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify client needs and propose tailored solutions.
    • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for clients.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other tools for managing data, budgeting, and forecasting.
    • Project management skills to support timelines, deliverables, and client expectations.
    • Demonstrated professionalism and flexibility in working independently and with teams without a direct line of accountability.
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
    • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
    • Proven ability to thrive in remote mining environments and adapt to field conditions.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, balancing client engagement with technical support.
    • Self‑motivation and a proactive mindset to identify and pursue business opportunities.

    Required Qualifications

    • BSc in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Process Engineering, or related field.
    • Applied industry experience (5‑10 years).
    • Valid Class 5 driver's license and clean driving history.

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
    • Ability to stand for up to a full shift.
    • Be available to work outside normal business hours when required.
    • Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day.
    • Ability to communicate via telephone and e‑mail without assistance.
    • Frequent domestic and international travel will be required (up to 40 %), occasionally on short notice.

    Our Benefits

    • An estimated annual salary ranging from $80,000 – $110,000 at the time of posting.
    • Structured wage increases.
    • Comprehensive benefit package specific to your work status (including extended medical, dental, and vision coverage, access to company perks, life and disability insurance, retirement plan with company match, employee assistance and wellness programs).
    • Additional vacation days for years of service.
    • Business support for education or training after 9 months with the company.
    • Learning & development opportunities (unlimited access to e‑learning and more).
