Key Qualifications:

  • Have Grade 12 education, and building maintenance certification or equivalent.
  • Must have experience in preventative maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing and heating systems.
  • Background experience working in health care (preferred)
  • Ability to read and write English, to work independently, and use basic math skills
  • A positive work and attendance record is essential

Position Summary:

  • Provides cleaning, sweeping and/or vacuuming of all surfaces in assigned areas.
  • Clean Hard surface floors, Scrub, wax, buff in all assigned areas.
  • Carpet extraction / stairwell cleaning in assigned areas.
  • Monitors and reports any damage to common areas to the Supervisor.
  • Provides for the prevention and control of the transmission of infections.
  • Understands and practices infection control techniques.
  • Provides for the safe and efficient preventative maintenance operation of all equipment for all IGGH departments.
  • Reports all mechanical or maintenance deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.
  • Follows procedures for the cleaning and care of equipment as well as the measurement and proper use of supplies.
  • Uses chemicals appropriately where designated.
  • Understands WHMIS and how to access WHMIS information on any product,
  • Monitors and reports inventory requirements to the Supervisors.
  • Follows guidelines for job and task performance requirements.
  • Is able to understand and obey all fire, emergency, and safety regulations.
  • Room preparation for new admission or transfers.
  • Communicate with nursing/administration on all housekeeping or janitorial issues.
  • Participation in all required training as per MOH LTC Act, MOL, IGGH, etc.
  • Responsible for working safely in compliance with accepted safe work practices, procedures and legislated health and safety standards

Employees must:

use and wear the equipment, protective devices and personal protective equipment as required; report hazards, accidents, and the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device; attend all required health and safety training; and follow all established safe work procedures.
