Qualifications:

Be a member of the "Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec."


Other Requirements:

  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Experience in conducting psychoeducational assessments with children and adolescents
  • Understanding the cognitive, behavioural and socialemotional characteristics of learners with various exceptionalities
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams in elementary and high schools
  • Ability to assist the school staff in implementing adaptations and modifications suited to individual student needs
  • Willingness to participate in the development of action plans and interventions for students with special needs
  • Familiarity with responses to critical incidents/traumatic events
  • Ability to work with individuals/groups
  • Ability to lead inservice sessions for school staff
  • Evidence of continuous professional growth
  • Knowledge of the Québec system of education (e.g. educational practices, curriculum issues)

Salary scale as per the SPPOQA CollectiveAgreement
$27.08 to $47.98


Nature of the work


The position of psych educator encompasses responsibility for carrying out prevention and screening activities, providing assistance and guidance as well as evaluating the adaptation difficulties and adaptive skills of students experiencing or likely to experience social maladjustments and determining a psychoeducational intervention plan and its implementation in order to create conditions to foster the student's optimal adaptation, restore and develop his or her adaptive skills and autonomy in interaction with his or her environment.

The incumbent provides advice and support to school resources and parents.


Daily Tasks/Dossiers

  • Ability to plan and conduct evaluations and screenings.
  • Ability to help teachers and staff determine the nature of the problem and provide them with advice and support;
  • Ability to work with students, groups of students or parents, help them identify difficulties and support them in exploring solutions;
  • Ability to help defuse crisis or emergency situations and to propose solutions;
  • Ability to collaborate as an active member of a multidisciplinary school resource team;
  • Ability to prepare and update files according to the standards associated with the practice of the profession and the rules defined by the school board; he or she prepares progress notes or evaluation, endofprocess and followup reports on his or her interventions.

Qualifications requises:

Être membre de l'Ordre des conseillers et conseillères d'orientation et des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec.


Autres exigences:


  • Bilinguisme (français et anglais)
  • Expérience avec les évaluations psychologiques et pédagogiques d'enfants et d'adolescents
  • Compréhension des caractéristiques cognitives, comportementales et socioaffectives des apprenants présentant différentes atypies
  • Expérience de travail au sein d'équipes multidisciplinaires dans des écoles primaires et secondaires
  • Capacité de seconder le personnel des écoles dans la mise en place d'adaptations et de modifications pour répondre aux besoins individuels des élèves
- Être disposé à participer à l'élaboration de plans d'action et d'intervention pour les ÉHDAA

  • Connaissance des réactions aux incidents critiques/évènements traumatiques
  • Capacité de travailler avec les élèves individuellement ou en groupes
  • Capacité d'animer des ateliers pour le personnel de l'école
  • Attestation de perfectionnement professionnel continu
  • Connaissance du réseau scolaire québécois (par ex., les pratiques d'enseignement et les questions relative au programme)
